Recognizing September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Sandwich Women’s Club, in conjunction with The Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, will be conducting a one night QPR Suicide Prevention Training Program.  Joan McDonald, the Training & Office Coordinator of the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition, will be our guest speaker.

The Program will be held at the DANIEL WEBSTER INN, SANDWICH, MA FROM 7:00 TO 9:00 PM.  It is free and open to the public.  Members and non-members are invited to attend.

Question, Persuade, and Refer are 3 simple steps that ANYONE (parents, friends, volunteers, ministers, nurses, supervisors, firefighters, bartenders, others) can learn to help prevent suicide. QPR teaches how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person-at-risk connected to the help they need.  A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to get help and save a life

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.

“The Mission of the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition is: to help give Cape Cod and Island communities the necessary information and tools to raise awareness, promote education, and increase action to reduce suicides.”

PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN EDUCATIONAL AND EYE-OPENING EVENING ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH FROM 7:00 TO 9:00 PM AT THE DANIEL WEBSTER INN.

We will be accepting donations for the Village of Cataumet Family Shelter.  Items needed:  Diaper wipes, size 4 – 5 diapers, new inexpensive pillows, inexpensive cleaning products including brooms and buckets
